1723- NASADIYA SUKTA

NASADIYA SUKTA OF RIGVEDA
Rigveda comprises of 1,028 hymns or 10,500 verses. From that, the remarkable passage is theNasadiya sukta (hymn of creation).
The Nasadiya sutra verses have been acknowledged as the earliest account of skeptical inquiry . Astronomer Carl Sagan quoted it in discussing India's "tradition of skeptical questioning and unselfconscious humility before the great cosmic mysteries."
The Nasadiya Sukta (after the incipit ná ásat "not the non-existent") also known as the Hymn of Creation is the 129th hymn of the 10th Mandala of the Rigveda (10:129). It is concerned with cosmology and the origin of the universe.
Nasadiya Sukta with English translation

Then even nothingness was not, nor existence,
There was no air then, nor the heavens beyond it.
What covered it? Where was it? In whose keeping
Was there then cosmic water, in depths unfathomed?

1719- Mark Twain’s Top 9 Tips for Living a Kick-Ass Life by HENRIK EDBERG

 -----------------------------------------------------
“Let us live so that when we come to die
even the undertaker will be sorry.”
You may know Mark Twain for some of his very popular books like Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He was a writer and also a humorist, satirist and lecturer.
Twain is known for his many – and often funny – quotes. Here are a few of his tips.
1.“A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.”
If you don’t approve of yourself, of your behaviour and actions then you’ll probably walk around most of the day with a sort of uncomfortable feeling. If you, on the other hand, approve of yourself then you tend to become relaxed and gain inner freedom to do more of what you really want.
2.“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
So many limitations are mostly in our minds. We may for instance think that people will disapprove because we are too tall, too old or balding. But these things mostly matter when you think they matter. Because you become self-conscious and worried about what people may think.
3. “Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing.”
“Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.”
Humor and laughter are amazing tools. They can turn any serious situation into something to laugh about. They can lighten the mood just about anywhere.
4. “Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.”
Let go of anger.Anger is most of the time pretty pointless. It can cause situations to get out of hand. And from a selfish perspective it often more hurtful for the one being angry then the person s/he’s angry at
5. “Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.”
Release yourself from entitlement.
When you are young your mom and dad may give a lot of things. As you grow older you may have a sort of entitlement. You may feel like the world should just give you what you want or that it owes you something.
6. “A person with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds.”
I think this has quite a bit of relevance to self-improvement. If you’re taking a different path, prepare for reactions.
If you start to change or do something different than you usually do then people may react in different ways. Some may be happy for you. Some may be indifferent. Some may be puzzled or react in negative and discouraging ways.
7.“Drag your thoughts away from your troubles… by the ears, by the heels, or any other way you can manage it.”
What you focus your mind on greatly determines how things play out. You can focus on your problems and dwell in suffering and a victim mentality. Or you can focus on the positive in situation, what you can learn from that situation or just focus your mind on something entirely else.
8.“The best way to cheer yourself up is to try cheer somebody else up.”
Don’t focus so much on making yourself feel good. This may be a bit of a counter-intuitive tip. one of the best ways to feel good about yourself is to make someone else feel good or to help them in some way.
9. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Awesome quote. And I really don’t have much to add to that one. Well, maybe to write it down and keep it as a daily reminder – on your fridge or bathroom door – of what you can actually do with your life.

1717- A spiritual man to saunter from Kanyakumari to Kashmir

CHANGEMAKER
Walking the talk
By Navin J. Antony Story Dated: Saturday, November 29, 2014
________________________________
For a person who begins his autobiography with a reference to himself in the third person, Sri M of Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh comes across as rather unassuming. Clean-cut, clean shaven and often clad in white dhoti and kurta, he does not have the paraphernalia one associates with a spiritual guru. Listen to him talk, and you would know Sri M is the odd man out in the spiritual bandwagon.
Born Mumtaz Ali Khan in Thiruvananthapuram, the suave and soft-spoken Sri M is the founder of The Satsang Foundation, an organisation working for spiritual and educational uplift of people. The foundation runs two schools, one of which provides free, multi-lingual education to children from tribal areas in Andhra Pradesh. Some of his followers refer to him as ‘sir' or ‘guru', but he likes to be called a yogi and spiritual guide. “I help people who are in search of truth. Others, I would like to filter out,” he says.
‘Filtering out' is how Sri M lets go of followers who blindly believe in him. “I do things to tick them off. For instance, I come out of a bar while they are watching. Inquiring minds would wonder, and then investigate, why I went to the bar. They would find that I went there not to drink, but to talk with an alcoholic. Others would begin to doubt you and stop believing,” he says.
Even as a child, Sri M seems to have had a phenomenally inquiring mind. While rummaging through his father's drawer, he discovered two books—Japa Yoga and Gayatri and an illustrated yoga guide—written by Swami Chinmayananda.
Sri M says his home was a golden cage, from where he wanted to break free. Before he left home for good, he made “trial runs” to Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli when he was 16. His parents were not impressed. “I had a strange and irresistible urge to go to the Himalayas. My parents knew I was different. My father, who was liberal, accepted it grudgingly, although he was disappointed that I did not follow him in his business [of contract building]. My mother, who was orthodox, did not,” says Sri M.
He left for the Himalayas when he was 19. There he met Swami Maheshwarnath Babaji, “who transformed his consciousness totally”. Sri M says Babaji, with whom he lived for more than three years, was both practical and matter-of-fact—he did not believe in bathing in the freezing waters of the Alaknanda before meditation. You would get pneumonia, he told Sri M once, and there were no good hospitals close by.
Practicality is the trait that differentiates Sri M from other gurus. Perhaps, it owes a great deal to the fact that he is married and has two children. His wife, Sunanda, is a Saraswat Brahmin whose likes differ from him in many ways. For one, she does not like to visit temples. “I, on the other hand, love to hear the sounds of temple music and chanting. My children, too, are spiritual in their own way. They are good people, who put up with my eccentricities,” he says.
How did Mumtaz Ali Khan become Sri M? “I was initiated in the Nath tradition and was named Madhukarnath. M is for Madhukarnath, Mumtaz, manush… even my guru's name is Maheshwarnath. My followers started calling me M, and later Mr M. But Mr M was too western-sounding. It was later changed to Sri M. So I, too, accepted it,” he says.
He says the idea of a supreme being ties all religions together. Yet, the rituals of each religion have built barriers. To bring about peace, harmony and tolerance across India, Sri M is embarking on an epic padyatra. Called Walk of Hope, it will start from Kanyakumari on January 12 and end in Kashmir in 2015. It will cover eleven states and, Sri M hopes, dissolve religious and cultural barriers. “We will walk some 15km every day, stop at towns and villages and interact with people of diverse faiths,” says Sri M. “The mission is to bring synergy between religions, cultures and communities. A hundred years ago, another spiritual master, Swami Vivekananda, undertook a similar journey. I am not comparing myself to him. But hopefully, I will be able to bring in some change with the help of like minded people."

1714- “annam parabrahma swaroopam”

According to Hindu scriptures, annam(food) is a form of Brahman- LORD ALMIGHTY (“annam parabrahma swaroopam”). Food is God; God is love; spread love by sharing food.

"To the hungry religion comes in the form of bread".
"The only God that exists, the only God in whom we believe ...my God the miserable, my God the poor of all races".
Swamy Vivekananda

To throw away food, it doesn't take even a minute
But to grow food grains, it takes months and years!
Eat what you take, take only what you eat!

WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!

(Food is the characteristic of mortal life. Hindu texts refer to the physical body as annamaya kosa or food body because it is produced by food. The food body is also identified with the earth element (mahabhuta) because it consists mostly of the earth matter. The gross body is the seat of our senses and it receives nourishment through the senses and food. It is responsible for our bodily desires and bondage to earth. When a person dies he leaves his food body behind and goes to other planes of existence depending upon his previous karma.
Food occupies an important part in the religious life of Hindus. Food is offered to ancestors during rituals. Food is offered to gods during their invocation ceremonies. Food is offered to deities in the temples. Food is served to the poor and the needy as part of seva or charitable service. Food is also served to the animals and birds as a part of religious duty.)

1707- Visible Gods!

Swamy Vivekananda's wanderings in the country for two years, when he personally experienced the poverty and deprivation of his countrymen, and the degree of their ignorance and exploitation of the lower classes in the country.
Swamy Vivekananda opined that when we can see God in the stone idols, why can't we see Him in living beings!
He then said that "To the hungry religion comes in the form of bread". At the end of his Parivrajaka, he said "The only God that exists, the only God in whom we believe ...my God the miserable, my God the poor of all races". He believed that the only way to help the poor was through the spirit of Niskama karma of the Gita.
His vow was to "serve humanity." Vivekananda then referred to feeding the poor as "Narayana Seva", and preached for "Daridra Narayana Seva", meaning service to the poor as service to Narayana, the Vedic Supreme God (including his different avatars) in Hinduism, venerated as the Supreme Being in Vaishnavism.
Though the term 'Daridra Narayana' was coined by Vivekananda, it was popularized by Mahatma Gandhi.

1703- Truth about Religions - Islam , Hinduism and Christianity!

Courtesy: Krishnanunni Prakasan
Sunday, 7 July 2013
(Note :- This post is not intended to hurt anyone just plane Truths which I observed around.)
______________________________
Well I always believe that no multireligious country can ever progress and I still believe in it .
My own personal experiences say a story . Even if i am born a Hindu i am not a fanatic Hindu nor a fanatic religious person like my brothers and sisters . I am proud of being a Hindu . I believe in Hinduism , Buddhism and Christianity . I am proud of being part of one of the oldest religions in the world .
And I wont be a hypocrite either . I know there are definite evils within the Hindu system like caste system , dalit mass murdering etc . Well as a Keralite and with the help of Communism and Christian missionaries . Kerala never had to face the evils of Hinduism . Well at least Keralites are not fanatics like their counterparts in the North . Keralites have matured enough to know that no religion is really practical . But lately what i have been observing and living has been pretty disturbing for me as well as it could affect Kerala in the future .
Its a fact that even the most modern religions out there aren't fool proof can only be beneficial to a human when he is depressed and religions and Gods can work as hope and could be used in effective way to prevent men from sinning other than that I see no use for religions including Hinduism .
I respect Christians but i hate the sect in Christians that say all problems in your life can be solved by accepting Jesus as saviour or there is only one God Jesus and you will burn in hell if you deviate from the path of Jesus . well to be frank of I have seen the movie Passion of Christ
and I had wept and I still respect Jesus for nonviolence he stood for and how he calls his followers to forgive sinners . and how he tells his followers to shun non violence . Jesus being the most merciful prayed for people of Israel for God or Creator to forgive them for the sins they did . So Christianity is a definite embracer of Non Violence and words of Jesus should never be twisted .
I think what Jesus meant was people who refuse the path of truth ( may be non violence and love for fellow beings ) would burn in hell .
So coming back to present life , I have been lately seeing the rise of Fanatic Islamists or Muslims in Kerala . The Religion Islam or their faith in Islam blinds them so much they lose their ability to see whole humans as a unit . They can only see two kinds of people around the environment they are living . One = Islam followers ( the good people to them ) and the non Islam followers ( bad people to them) . what i observed is disturbing these Neo Islamists never do business with people of other religious faith . These Neo Islamists will only engage in Business or things which would benefit their own Islamic people . They never do anything which would benefit followers of other religions .
They are so Narrow minded that they tend to forget that all Keralites and Indians belong to the same Genetic roots as their own , while they stand for a world filled with people united by Islam . This is a very disturbing fact and reality . Their attitude is let a Muslim do any evil or unworthy acts but we gotta always support that Muslim as he is a Muslim not a brilliant logic and it would lead to the formation of nations within a nation and it would soon lead to communal clashes . When all other religious communities start working for the good of their own people it will soon lead to a situation where it would demand separate nations for a separate community which is least desirable . So our nation builders did a big mistake by not eliminating Religions in the Independent India .
Fanatic Religious followers should be prosecuted and they should know the fact that Religions after a point would only cause Humans to be lost in fight against each other . As an interesting point Fanatic Islamists tell their followers to shun west and they condemn west for the problems in the current world .
But an Interesting point what had fanatic Islamists contributed to the modern world ? almost nothing the television , the internet , the modern medicines , the automobiles , the laptop , the mobile phones , the condom everything are western contributions or Jewish contributions to the humanity neither Islam nor its fanatic followers had contributed anything to the world. well I remember Talbianies demolishing thousand + year old Buddhist structures from Afghanistan another act of religious fanaticism so what do modern Islamic fanatics need , believe in a fanatic way and walk through the path of violence and take the head of anyone who refuses Islam and keep humans in fight against each other , Keep violence spread over ? training young kids to be suicide bombers and ultimately spread hatred ? no that's not what i dream of!
so we need a world without fanatic religions !!!!!
