Do you develop cold feet while speaking in public? Here’s what you need to do to become a great speaker.

Persuasion skills are essential for good leadership. These are one of the greatest components of public speaking and have the ability to influence, convince, negotiate, and sell. Who doesn’t need them? I am sure all of us sometime or the other have gone through a situation where we had to say a few words in public but developed cold feet. On then looks for an excuse to escape such a situation.

Some of the greatest public speakers were the greatest disasters when they started. The good news is that we can all learn to be effective public speakers.

The best product or service, if not presented properly, is useless. There are many advantages to being a powerful speaker:~
(1)One of them is that you are perceived as a leader and an expert in your field.
(2)Second, you can leverage your position effectively.

Public Speaking comprises the following three Fs:
(1)Flair,
(2)Flow and
(3Facts.

(1)Flair: When you are on the platform, your presentation must have pizzazz. It ought not to be bland. You are not an entertainer or performer, but your presentation must have flair.

(2)Flow: There must be a structure to your presentation, otherwise people lose track.

(3)Facts: What you say on the platform, goes into public domain. No matter what you say, you must have your facts right to gain credibility.

The following are some steps to being an effective public speaker.

•Clarify expectation in advance:
Ask your hosts what is the ‘end result’ they are looking for upon completion of your presentation. Clarity on the end result would decide your contents.

•Do not make more than three points:
Why?
Less than three is too little, more than three is too much. Don’t question the power of three. Somehow three points stick. It is an odd number; odd numbers stick better than even numbers.

•Use simple language:
Keep your presentation at 6th grade level. Use simple words that can be easily understood. Don’t use jargons, slang or words that are difficult to understand.

The idea is to express and not to impress. The audience being impressed is a natural outcome of a good presentation.

•Be yourself:
Don’t pretend and put on a false mask. Just be honest and sincere. Being yourself does not mean that you become casual. Being casual displays indifference or arrogance. People hate both.

•Go well prepared:
Practice, Practice, Practice. There is no substitute to preparation. Audiences can tell if you have come prepared or not.

An unprepared speaker wastes their audience’s time. They invest their time to listen to you out of trust. When trust is broken, they feel cheated.

•Have a strong opener:
Why? How much time does it take to grab your audience’s attention? About 30 seconds. If you have not got their attention within 30 seconds, you have lost them. Most powerful speakers have very strong openers.

•Have a strong close:
Why are strong openers and closes crucial to a good presentation? Because they leave a lasting impression. Impressions stick in the mind whereas contents are lost. Impressions have a lasting effect.

•Always close with a ‘call to action’:
Every speech must close with a very strong and specific call to action. A call to action makes you a leader, otherwise you are only an information provider. If your speech does not end with a call to action, you are only a loud speaker, not a good public speaker.

These are only a few essentials of a good public speaker. Good public speaking needs a lot of practice.

•తూటా కంటే శక్తివంతమైనది మాట! ఒక్క మాటతో సంబంధం తెంచుకోవచ్చు, ఒకే మాటతో లేని బందాన్ని పంచుకోవచ్చు.

•మనిషి సమాజంలో సూదిలా బ్రతకాలి, కత్తెర లాగ కాదు.
సూది పని ఎప్పుడూ జోడించడమే,
కత్తెర పని ఎప్పుడూ విడదీయడమే,
అందరిని కలుపుకుంటూ బ్రతకాలి.

If the return trip took more time, the fish 🐠🐟🐠🐟 were not fresh.

To solve this problem, fish 🐠🐟 companies installed freezers on their boats.

They would catch the fish 🐠🐟 and freeze them at sea.

Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer.

However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen fish🐠🐟 and they did not like the taste of frozen fish 🐠🐟

The frozen fish🐠🐟 brought a lower price.

So, fishing companies installed fish tanks.

They would catch the fish 🐠🐟 and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin.

After a little thrashing around, they were tired, dull, and lost their fresh-fish taste.

The fishing industry faced an impending crisis!

But today, they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan.

How did they manage...?

To keep the fish🐠🐟🐠 tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish🐠🐟🐠 in the tanks but with a small shark🐋🐋

The fish🐠🐟🐠are challenged and hence are constantly on the move.

The challenge they face keeps them alive and fresh!

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us!

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, really friendly. So I asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!”

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage (frustration, anger, and disappointment, etc.). As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you.

Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so… love the people who treat you right & pray for the ones who don’t. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

"Six years ago in Singapore I gave a taxi driver a business card to take me to a particular address.

At the last point he circled round the building. His meter read 11$, but he took only 10.

I said Henry, your meter reads 11$ how come you are taking only 10.

He said Sir, I am a taxi driver, I am supposed to be bringing you straight to the destination. Since I did not know the last spot, I had to circle around the building. Had I brought you straight here, the meter would have read 10$.

Why should you be paying for my ignorance ?

He said Sir, legally, I can claim 11$ but Honestly and ethically I am entitled to only 10.

He further added that Singapore is a tourist destination and many people come here for three or four days. After clearing the immigrations and customs, the first experience is always with the taxi driver and if that is not good, the balance three to four days are not pleasant either.

He said Sir I am not a taxi driver, I am the Ambassador of Singapore without a diplomatic passport.

In my opinion he probably did not go to school beyond the 8th grade, but to me he was a professional. To me his behavior reflected pride in performance and character.

That day I learnt that one needs more than professional qualification to be a professional.

In one line be a "Professional with a human touch and Values " that makes all the more difference.

Knowledge, skill, money, education, all comes later. First comes Human Values, Honesty and Integrity

మన సొమ్మును ఒక చోట పెట్టుబడి పెడుతున్నామంటే ఎంతోకొంత రాబడి ఆశించే కదా! అయితే, ఎంత రాబడి వస్తే మన డబ్బు ఎన్నేళ్లలో రెట్టింపు అవుతుందన్న విషయం మనకు తెలుసుండాలి. బీమా పాలసీలు తీసుకున్నా, బ్యాంకు ఫిక్స్‌డ్‌ డిపాజిట్లలో జమ చేసినా, ఫండ్లలో పెట్టుబడి పెట్టినా రాబడి ఎంత వస్తుందో తెలిస్తే చాలు.. రెట్టింపు కోసం ఎన్నాళ్లు ఆగాలో తెలుసుకోవచ్చు.

దీనికోసం ఒక సూత్రం ఉంది. అదే 'రూల్‌ 72':- 
దీని ద్వారా మన సొమ్ము నిర్ణీత సమయంలో రెట్టింపు కావాలంటే ఎంత రాబడి రావాలి తెలుసుకోవచ్చు. లేదా రాబడి ఆధారంగా ఎన్నేళ్ల సమయంలో మనం అనుకున్న ఫలితం వస్తుందో గణించవచ్చు.

ఎలా?:
[i] రాబడి శాతం ఎంత రావాలో తెలుసుకోవడానికి.
72/సంవత్సరాలు. అంటే పదేళ్లలో మీ సొమ్ము రెట్టింపు కావాలంటే.. కనీసం 7.2 శాతం రాబడి రావాలన్న మాట. (72/10=7.2)

[ii]మీరు పెట్టుబడి పెట్టిన పథకం 8 శాతం రాబడి ఇస్తుందనుకుందాం.అప్పుడు వీటిల్లో పెట్టిన మన సొమ్ము రెట్టింపు కావడానికి కూడా ఇదే సూత్రం వరిస్తుంది. 72/8 = 8.4 (8ఏళ్ల 4 నెలలు)

(2)నష్టభయం ఎంత మేరకు?:- దీర్ఘకాలంలో మంచి రాబడి అందించే పథకాలు అనగానే ఈక్విటీలు, ఈక్విటీ ఆధారిత పథకాలే గుర్తుకు వస్తాయి. అయితే, రాబడిని అంటిపెట్టుకొని, ఇందులో నష్టభయం ఉంటుంది. అందుకే, అందరికీ ఇవి సరిపడవు. ద్రవ్యోల్బణం పెరుగుతున్న నేపథ్యంలో సంప్రదాయ పొదుపు పథకాలు ఇచ్చే రాబడి అంతంత మాత్రంగానే ఉంటోంది. అయితే, పెట్టుబడులకు ప్రత్యేకించేదంతా ఈక్విటీల్లోనే పెడితే నష్టాలు వచ్చినప్పుడు పరిస్థితి ఏమిటి?
అందుకే, ఎంత సొమ్మును స్టాక్‌ మార్కెట్‌కు ప్రత్యేకించాలన్నది తెలుసుకోవాలి.

** వయసును బట్టి మదుపు ప్రణాళిక మారుతూ ఉండాలి. ఒక్కో దశకూ ఒక్కో అంశం ప్రాధాన్యం పెరుగుతూ ఉంటుంది. 25 ఏళ్ల వయసులో ఉన్నప్పుడు నష్టం వచ్చినా తట్టుకునే శక్తి ఉంటుంది. కానీ, 65 ఏళ్ల వారికి నష్టం వస్తే ఆర్థికంగా కష్టమే కదా!
కాబట్టి, ఈక్విటీల్లో మదుపు చేసేవారు ఒక సూత్రాన్ని పాటించాలి. 100 లోనుంచి మన వయసును తీసేయగా వచ్చే సంఖ్యకు సమానమైన శాతంలోనే పెట్టుబడులు పెట్టవచ్చు. ఉదాహరణకు మీ వయసు 35 ఏళ్లనుకుందాం. అప్పుడు 100-35= 65. అంటే, మీరు పెట్టుబడులకు కేటాయించాలనుకుంటున్న మొత్తంలో దాదాపు 65 శాతం వరకూ ఈక్విటీలకు ప్రత్యేకించవచ్చన్నమాట.

కొన్ని ప్రత్యేక సందర్భాల్లో దీనికి మినహాయింపులు ఉన్నాయి. మీకు అప్పులు ఎక్కువగా ఉన్నాయనుకోండి. ఇల్లు కట్టుకోవడం, లేదా గృహరుణం తీర్చేయాలనే లక్ష్యాలు మూడేళ్లలోపు పూర్తి తీర్చుకోవాలని అనుకుంటున్నారనుకోండి. అధిక శాతం సొమ్ము ఈక్విటీల్లో పెట్టడం మంచిది కాదు. అలాంటప్పుడు డెట్‌ లేదా స్థిరాదాయం అందించే పథకాలకు మళ్లించాలి.

(3)పొదుపు కూడా ఖర్చే:-
చిన్న వయసులోనే వేలకు వేల జీతం ఆర్జిస్తున్నవారూ నెలాఖరు వచ్చే సరికి చేతిలో చిల్లిగవ్వ లేకుండా ఉంటున్నారు. క్రెడిట్‌ కార్డులతో నెట్టుకొస్తున్నారు. ఖర్చులు పోగా మిగిలిందంతా పొదుపే అన్నట్లు ఉండటం సరికాదు. సంపాదిస్తున్న దాంట్లో స్థిరంగా కొంత మొత్తాన్ని తీసేసి, మిగిలిందే మన చేతికి అందే సొమ్ము అనే భావన ఏర్పర్చుకోవాలి. ఇక్కడ పొదుపును కూడా ఒక ఖర్చుగానే భావించి మొదటి ప్రాధాన్యం దానికే ఇవ్వాలి.

ఎంత జీతం వచ్చినా అందులో నుంచి తక్కువలో తక్కువ 10 శాతమైనా ఈ పొదుపనే ఖర్చుకు కేటాయించాలి. అంటే మీకు నెలకు రూ.30 వేలు వస్తున్నాయనుకుందాం. అప్పుడు ముందుగా కనీసం రూ.3,000 ఆ మొత్తంలోనుంచి తగ్గించాలి. అంటే, మీకు వస్తున్నది రూ. 27వేలే అన్నమాట. ఇందులోనుంచే మీరేం చేసినా. అనివార్య పరిస్థితుల్లో మీరు ఒక నెల 10శాతం సొమ్మును దాచలేకపోయారు. అప్పుడు రెండు నెలలు 15శాతం చొప్పున మిగల్చాలి. నిబంధన మాత్రం తప్పకూడదు.

** ఈ సొమ్మును దీర్ఘకాలిక పథకాల్లోనూ మదుపు చేయవచ్చు. లేదా బ్యాంకుల్లో 'స్వీప్‌ ఇన్‌' సౌకర్యం ఉంటే అందులోకి ఈ నగదును జమ చేయవచ్చు. ఇవి తాత్కాలిక ఫిక్స్‌డ్‌ డిపాజిట్లలాగా పనిచేస్తాయి. లిక్విడ్‌ ఫండ్లనూ ఎంచుకోవచ్చు. పొదుపు ఖాతాకన్నా కొద్దిగా ఎక్కువ వడ్డీ వస్తుంది. ఎప్పుడు కావాలంటే అప్పుడు సొమ్మును వెనక్కి తీసుకోవచ్చు.

(4)అప్పు చేస్తున్నారా?:-
అన్నింటికీ అప్పు సులభంగా దొరికే ఈ రోజుల్లో సరదాగా రుణాలు చేయడం అలవాటయ్యింది. కొత్తగా ఏది వచ్చినా దాన్ని కొనడం కొంతమందికి అలవాటు. ఇలా తెలియకుండానే అప్పుల వూబిలోకి దిగిపోయేవారు ఎంతోమంది. కానీ, రుణం చేయకుండా ఉండాలంటే.. చాలా వాటిని కోల్పోవాల్సి వస్తుంది. సొంతిల్లు సొంతం చేసుకోవాలన్నా.. నచ్చిన కారును కొనాలన్నా అప్పు చేయడం తప్ప మార్గం లేదు. కాకపోతే ఈ అప్పులు మరీ ఎక్కువయినప్పుడే ఇబ్బంది.
అన్ని రుణాల వాయిదాలూ కలిపి మీ మొత్తం జీతంలో 40 శాతానికి మించకూడదనేది వ్యక్తిగత ఆర్థిక నిపుణుల మాట.

ఉదాహరణకు మీరు నెలకు రూ.30,000 సంపాదిస్తున్నారునుకుందాం. అందులో నెలకు రూ. 12,000కు మించి రుణ వాయిదాలు చెల్లించకూడదు. అప్పుడే మీరు ఆర్థికంగా ఆరోగ్యంగా ఉన్నట్లు లెక్క. ఎక్కువ వడ్డీలకు తెచ్చిన వ్యక్తిగత, క్రెడిట్‌ కార్డు రుణాలను సాధ్యమైనంత తొందరగా వదిలించుకోవడం మేలు. గుర్తుంచుకోండి. విలువ పెరిగే ఆస్తుల కొనుగోలుకు తీసుకున్న అప్పులు ఎప్పుడూ మంచివే.

ముందే అనుకున్నట్లు వ్యక్తులను బట్టి ప్రణాళికలు మారుతూ ఉంటాయి. దానికి తగ్గట్టుగా పెట్టుబడి మొత్తాలు కూడా. ఒకరికి సరిపోయిన సూత్రం మరొకరికి సరిపోకపోవచ్చు.
ఒక అవగాహనకు రావడానికి మాత్రం వీటి మీద ఆధారపడవచ్చు.
